What are the Chin Deformities?
Congenital small or curved upper or lower jaws, and misalignment of the face due to underdevelopment are the most common jaw deformities.
Other problems encountered are trauma-related fractures, dislocations and incorrect unions. Among the jaw deformities, one of the most disturbing conditions for patients is biting problems.
As a result, the patient may have eating disorders, may experience breathing problems and snoring while sleeping. These chin deformities may also cause the person to experience psychological problems.
Patients with such orthodontic problems are reffered to dentists before any aesthetic operation. However, orthodontic treatment may not be sufficient fort he patient who also have biting problems, and surgical intervention in the jawbones may be required. The surgical methods are aesthetic operations that are more comprehensive and have a longer recovery period compared to the jaw tip procedures performed only for aesthetic reasons.
How Is Performed Chin Aesthetic Operations?
Before deciding the methods to perform, the underlying problem should be well defined. Therefore, a detailed physical examination should be done beforehand. For the patients whose lower jaw is smaller than a proportional look and backwards, chin implants or filler injections may be recommended.
The chin aesthetic operation, which can be performed under general or local anesthesia according to the patient’s desire and the surgeon’s decision, takes an average of 45 minutes – 1 hour. Prostheses are inserted into the appropriate areas planned on the chin by incisions made under the chin or inside the mouth.
Does Chin Aesthetic Operation Leave A Scar?
Depending on the technique, there may be noticible scar left after the surgery. There are several techniques used for the surgery. The first of them is the incisions made inside the mouth. Thanks to thes incisions, there is no scar left noticible.
The second method is performed by incisions made under the chin. By this method, there are scars left however the scars are not directly noticible since the scars are below the chin. Both methods are applied for a chin aesthetic surgery.
Although incisions made inside of the mouth are generally preferred, incisions made under the chin are used in cases when the patient undergoes a combined surgery of genioplasty, jowl and neck lift operation.
How Is The Recovery Period?
The patient may experience pain and swelling for the first week after the surgery. It is normal to have nump lips temporarily.
The incisions made inside the mouth heal within a weel and the swelling around the mouth subsides within 1-2 weeks.
Does It hurt?
The operation can be performed under loca lor general anesthesia depending on the patient’s desire. If the operation is performed under general anesthesia, the patient does not feel any pain during the operation.
If the operation is performed under locak anesthesia, the patient experience pain while the local anesthesia is applied via needles.
